Out-of-the-box encryption for USB sticks is nothing new and has been on the market for quite a while now.
The usually more expensive devices come with built-in technology automatically encrypting all data stored on them, providing strong protection against data leach and unauthorised access to your files.
One of the biggest disadvantages of these solutions has always been the fact that they would only work on Windows-based machines, making your data inaccessible to a growing number of Mac users.
With SanDisk’s new Enterprise solution of its popular Cruzer line, however, computer users can now access their encrypted data on both Windows and Macintosh-based machines. This is an industry first and we aplaud SanDisk for their efforts of making data encryption more accessible to the everyday user.
The devices are currently availabe as either with 4GB (MacMall, $113.99) or the larger model, 8GB (MacMall, $263.99) of storage. While these are certainly placed on the higher side of the price range, it is an investment worth considering if you are working across different platforms and need to securely transport your data between them.
Update, May 28th: Storage specialist Kingston has now also joined the leagues of providing high-class USB Encryption for Mac OS X. The Kingston DataTraveler Vault Privacy Edition with 2 GB of storage is currently priced at $66.67 on Buy.com.
